Summer Is Here!

Well summer has arrived like a blast furnace!  Daytime temperatures around 110 degrees and night time temps in the upper 70's to low 80's.  Late night to early morning fishing is best right now.  With water temps around 82 degrees the smallies are looking for relief in deep water until late evening and once the sun hits the water they're heading back deep again.  I've been catching good numbers but sill not catch many in the 17" to 20" range.  My bait of choice right now in the cooler hours is a spinner bait with gold willow leaf blades and a trailer hook.  Keep it crawfish color.  Anything too bright presents too large of a profile.  The water is finally starting to clear up so if you can see your spinner then its not quite deep enough.  If early morning and late night isn't for you then your best bet is to set up over structure with a jig or spoon in about twenty feet of water.  Stay as cool as you can and drink plenty of fluids!
